What is MultiBoard?

MultiBoard is a 3D printed flexible board system that can be used as a wall or desk organizer, can take a lot of weight, and can even be used as frames for 3D structures. Since its release, MultiBoard has become one of the most popular 3D-printed projects on the planet. MultiBoard is part of a larger system called MultiBuild that also includes a bin & drawer system, and soon cable management and many more expansions.

How does MultiBoard compare to other board systems? (HSW, Pegboard…)

Honeycomb Storage Wall (HSW). MultiBoard does everything HSW can, and much more: MultiBoard is significantly stronger. (HSW holds ~1 kg per snap.) True 25 mm grid vs. HSW's non-standard spacing. Rotates accessories in clean 45° increments vs. HSW's 60°. Supports strong Snaps, Threads, and pegboard accessories (HSW only uses weak snaps). More mounting options: flush-mounted, offset, freestanding, adhesive, pole-mounted, and more. Pegboard MultiBoard is fully compatible with standard pegboard accessories, but offers much more versatility. Threadboard Really? Every hole in MultiBoard is threaded.

Is MultiBuild open source?

MultiBuild isn't strictly "open source". We use a custom license, but it keeps the spirit and benefits of open source. All the individual functional parts are free (or will be), and the community can freely remix and share their MultiBuild-compatible creations. Our license however, prevents the redistribution of the original MultiBuild files. This allows: A sustainable membership to fund development. Protection from low-effort copycat companies. How can we trust you to keep the individual parts free?

I get it. Technically, we could change our minds and make all the parts paid forever. But we would never do that. So to guarantee that will never happen, we made a legally binding community promise that guarantees that all of the functional MultiBuild parts will be free within 6 months of release. Do I need a special 3D printer?

No, most consumer 3D printers with at least a 200×200 mm build plate can print the standard plates. Smaller printers can simply use smaller plates.
